Berber


During the  Turkish period 1821-1885  Berber has been taken as capital.
Berber was one of the main pilgrimage caravan routes via Suakin to Makka. The remains of the pilgrims town at the ancient quarter of the town (Al Mikhairif) is a witness to role played by Berber. addition to that it was one of the famouse and important trade centers in Sudan.
